I am pleased to work with adults and older teens in individual, couples, and family therapy. Please find further information about me below:
EDUCATION AND HONORS: I have been trained in psychology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. I attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNC-G) as a full four-year Katharine Smith Reynolds Scholar. I received my B.A. degree in psychology from UNC-G, graduating as a Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude honors graduate. I received my first M.A. degree in general psychology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, graduating as a Henry Weil Fellow for Graduate Study. My second M.A. degree in Clinical Psychology is from Georgia State University (GSU) in Atlanta, where I was a awarded the John Warkentin Award for Outstanding Promise in Psychotherapy. Additionally, I have completed many years of doctoral-level training in Clinical Psychology at GSU, including a one-year American Psychological Association (APA-) approved internship.
CREDENTIALS: I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia, an Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapist, and a National Provider for Mental Health Care. My professional license and certification required not only the educational training and degrees, but clinical supervision, professional experience, and the successful completion of an exam to demonstrate my knowledge and application of basic counseling and/or hypnosis principles, ethics, and interventions. Continuing education points are required of me yearly to keep current in the field. Collectively these procedures ensure the quality of service you can trust and expect from your work with me.
EXPERIENCE: I have been privileged to work as a therapist since 1982. Since 1990 I have been in private practice. Prior to working in my own practice, I worked in a variety of settings including community mental health centers, a rehabilitation center, hospital units, and a university counseling center. My work is with adults and older teens in individual, couples, and family therapy. I specialize in the treatment of relationship and family conflict, the relief of anxiety and depression, mind/body/Spirit healing, and recovery from loss, grief, and trauma. In addition to providing treatment (counseling and hypnosis), I supervise individuals working towards their license in counseling in Georgia, write mental health and self-help materials, and present workshops and seminars. For 6 years I taught psychology courses at GSU. I have served on the state board for the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia. All these endeavors continue to challenge me and help me grow personally and professionally.
